Life with Evi
How are you celebrating National Scrapbooking Day?
“I have celebrated National Scrapbooking Day for 6 years now. It’s always a fun time in the scrapbooking community to set aside some time and be able to document our stories. There are virtual scrapbooking challenges and giveaways occurring and plenty of inspiration posted on IG and FB. My husband will take our daughter for a fun activity in order to give me a few hours in my craft room uninterrupted. This year I hope to get caught up on my 12×12 pocket page album and my memory planner. If I have more time, I will complete more creative and artistic 12×12 scrapbook layouts for our family albums. When I get crafty time, I usually film and will have videos to post to my YouTube channel.
With this craft, I was able to create this beautiful butterfly layout. I arranged different sized butterflies using PrintWorks Pastel Cardstock in the light blue and green. For added detail to the larger butterflies, I cut the details overlay using PrintWorks White Glitter Cardstock to add a lovely detail to them. I simply love how they layer on top of each other. These butterflies are special on their own but clustered together around a photo of my daughter and I together makes this layout special. The background paper is from a 12×12 paper pad and it has the blue and green watercolor effect already on it. I kept the wings of the butterflies dimensional to keep the layout seeming luscious and full. Hope you love it as much as we do!”
What does scrapbooking mean to you?
“Scrapbooking is a part of who I am. I am able to document my story that corresponds with the photos I select. I have always been sentimental and I have always taken tons of photos. Scrapbooking is a way to get those photos off my camera or phone and record the memories with them. I love scrapbooking in any version possible, I am trying out different size albums lately and travelers notebooks too. At the rate I am going, albums will soon be taking over all the shelves in my home. I do enjoy flipping through older albums and recalling all the memories. That is also one of the best parts for me.”

How are you celebrating National Scrapbooking Day?
“I will be celebrating NSD pretty much the same way I spend every day…scrapbooking! I’m very lucky to have a dedicated scrapbook studio so it makes it easy to spend a few minutes or all day working on layouts without having to get things out and put them away every time.”
What does scrapbooking mean to you?
“Scrapbooking is a huge part of my life. It is not only something I enjoy but it’s also something that provides a full-time income for me. Most of my scrapping time is spent working on orders for other people but when I get the chance, I love creating layouts (like the one pictured) that celebrates a moment, a person or event that brings me joy. It’s so much more fun for me to look through scrapbook albums that tell a story of our life than simply scrolling through photos on my phone.”

How are you celebrating National Scrapbooking Day?
“I am celebrating National Scrapbooking Day by participating in the Paper Issues mini crop. This year the team is doing something different and debuting brand new scrapbook sketches to the Friends and Fans in the Paper Issues Friends and Fans Facebook group. The sketches will go live throughout the day as someone scraps live. There will be 10 sketches in all and participants have a few days to complete their layouts for a chance to win a gift card.
I love to scrap using sketches as a guide because I am a visual person. I need to be able to see something in order to spark an idea and get my creative juices flowing. I like to be able to see something and interpret and manipulate it to my own style and liking. I get to add my own personal touches and embellish a layout to tell my own story and how it relates to my memory or photos. Sketches are a great place to start when you need a starting point or direction.”
What does scrapbooking mean to you?
“That is a loaded question with simple, yet complicated answers. There’s always so much I want to say about it, but I never articulate it well. Scrapbooking is everything to me— that’s the short, sweet answer. But really it IS more than that. I love the idea of passing something tangible down for generations to come. It means telling our story from my point of view in a way that expresses and highlights my creativity. It’s my way of remembering and documenting the special and mundane things in our lives. It’s our personal story of the people we love, the things we did, the places we went (or lately, how we’ve enjoyed our time at home), and to show how we have lived our lives and existed and where we came from.
However, it’s more than that too.
We live in a day and age where we constantly connected, yet there is still a disconnect with the important people in our lives. In way, that’s very sad. We are becoming a world where we are always connected to our social media accounts and always snapping photos with the camera in our hands— our phones. And while I think that is great, what is done with the photos? We send them to a cloud and back them up. I want to take those quickly snapped shots and print them and remember them. I want them in a place where they are accessed from the shelf in our home where my kids are able to pull an album out and look at it anytime they want.
Having that ability to recall memories instantly is incredible! I love seeing the smile on my boys’ face when they remember something special to them. I love to hear their animated stories of the photos from their point of view that I didn’t particularly document. I love getting their input when I’m assembling a layout and picking items to piece together to complete a layout. It could be picking a piece of paper, or a color of thread, coming up with a title, or choosing one picture over the next. I love engaging with them and seeing their interest in my hobby even if it’s small. As parents, we spend gobs amount of time investing in our children and their activities. It’s very rewarding to see them reciprocate that while learning a sense of family pride. It’s just a small extra way to connect with them. So, yeah. Scrapbooking really is everything to me.”
