2022 Craft and Color Trends
With the rollercoaster years of 2020 and 2021, this year, 2022, the trends cover a range of emotions, but most come back to the notions of personal well-being, individualism and being “extra” with everything you do. There are too many trends to cover in this blog, so we will share just a few of the ones we found to be interesting.
Colorful Celebrations
Weddings will be coming back strong in 2022 after having to be put on hold for the last 2 years. Not only weddings, but every moment deserves to be celebrated. In 2022, the reasons to celebrate are endless. Parties will embrace celebrations that mark fresh milestones and open new chapters.
Calming Classrooms and Homes
With the craziness of the last 2 years, teachers are taking a nature-themed approach and focusing on more relaxing natural themes such as eucalyptus as some of their classroom décor. Sunshine, forests and other nature themes will be rising across the generations. People are embracing this nature theme in their homes as well and decking it out in plants. They are also including emotional escape rooms in their homes where they designate rooms in their homes to decompress, vibe and rage.
Crochet, Amigurumi, and More
Knitting and crocheting are on the rise with kit searches up over 30% in 2021. A type of Japanese crochet style called Amigurumi, (a crochet pattern that makes cute stuffed animals) looks to be trending for those not interested in making clothing. Along with the rise of knitting and crochet, crafters are getting creative and mixing yarn crafts together. Crochet and punch needle as well as a craft trending called macraweave where it combines macrame and weaving on gaining in popularity.
Upcycling & Sewing
With sustainability on most people’s minds, people are turning their scraps into treasures or becoming a Thrift flipper. Making your own t-shirt yarn for crafts, sprucing up old clothing or turning those fabric scraps into coasters or bags are continuing to trend up. People are getting creative, especially with their sewing machines and turning what’s old into something new again for their own use or for sale.
Paper Crafting and the Cricut
Paper crafting is an evergreen craft and so are the flowers and plants people are making with paper these days. Say goodbye to those fresh flowers and plants – people are opting for the much longer lasting paper versions. And what are they using to make these flowers and plants? Smart cutting machines such as the Cricut continue to see good business, but the Cricut Joy, in particular, has seen a huge increase in searches since it is much more affordable and portable for the average user. In addition to these creative paper crafts, people are using the Cricut more and more to help with decluttering/organizing as well as personalized gifts.
Trending Colors
Bold, vibrant neon Colors mixed with black is apparent in both pattern trends and fashion trends alike. Vintage street art looks at cool graphics mixed with street art to create a retro feel. Think torn billboards with rave flyers, and bright colorful statements. In fashion, people are dressing LOUD and PROUD with bright rainbow palettes along with electric blue and fuchsia.
Not your typical pastel color palette, these Candy-Coated Pastels are brimming with energy. With a focus on mint and pink, these sugary sweet color schemes are showing up every where from marketing campaigns to fashion alike. This color palette is the focus in trending pattern trends that feature abstract geometric patterns and marbling geodes.
And let’s not forgot, the Pantone Color of the Year, Very Peri. As stated by Pantone’s release “…Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives.
